Olivia Bowden

This summer, Olivia partnered with community partner Covestro for her City Semester internship. She joined other interns for the company’s intern sustainability challenge and was able to work with the Sustainability and Public Affairs teams on a range of projects and programs.

Kenneth Catlin

Class of 2024Major: Political ScienceMinor: Economics Community Partner: City Planning

During his internship with the City of Pittsburgh’s planning department, Ken focused on urban development and sustainability programs. He led a project to gather data and report benchmarks for the energy usage of more than 830 buildings in the city. Read more about Ken’s experience on Penn State News.

Hannah Kadrie

Class of 2025Major: ArchitectureMinor: Sustainability Leadership Community Partner: Riverlife

This summer, Hannah interned with Riverlife — a nonprofit that aims to celebrate Pittsburgh’s riverfronts through education, programming, and resources. During the internship, Hannah worked with Riverlife’s design team to collect information from the community about what they would like to see in Pittsburgh’s public parks. A lot of her focus was on the parks on the 15-mile trail that circles Pittsburgh’s three rivers.

Michael Knittel

Class of 2025Major: Political ScienceCommunity Partner: Tree Pittsburgh

Mike worked with Tree Pittsburgh this summer for his City Semester internship. He spent time doing general labor and assistance in the Heritage Nursery and also helped out with community engagement events, including volunteer activities, summer camps, and educational programming.

Jacob Levendosky

Class of 2024Major: BiologyCommunity Partner: Three Rivers Waterkeeper

During his City Semester internship with Three Rivers Waterkeeper, Jacob’s focus was on water testing and safety. He traveled to many water recreation sites around the city to collect and test water samples and report his findings on Swim Guide. He also helped with research and community river clean-up events.

Zane Saylor

Class of 2024Major: Earth SciencesMinor: RussianCommunity Partner: City Planning

Zane spent his summer with City Semester interning for the City of Pittsburgh’s Planning Department. He was able to collaborate with many different departments and learn about the city’s green infrastructure and stormwater management projects. He also spent time researching grants for Pittsburgh that focus on environmental equity.
