NGICP logoExpand your knowledge of green infrastructure

The National Green Infrastructure Certification Program (NGICP) is a 35-hour program taught by the Franco Harris Pittsburgh Center at Penn State that educates local practitioners on the ecological and economic benefits and challenges of installing and maintaining successful green infrastructure in the region. It covers the design, installation, inspection, and maintenance of green stormwater infrastructure relating to the Pennsylvania Best Management Practices (PA BMP) manual.

The program includes five full days of in-person instruction, which consists of classroom lectures followed by in-field site visits to local projects, and discussions about specific green stormwater issues and trends around southwest Pennsylvania. Students are responsible for their own transportation to site visits.

This program was initiated under the leadership of DC Water and the Water Environment Federation and is now administered by EnviroCert International, Inc. (ECI). After registration through Penn State and prior to the start of the course, candidates are required to submit a qualifying application directly to ECI including proof of education — high school equivalent or higher. A process checklist will be sent directly upon registration with Penn State. After successfully completing the course, participants become prequalified to sit for the certification exam, which requires registration through ECI and a separate $150 fee.

NGICP is open to all industry professionals looking to learn more about green infrastructure in Pittsburgh.
