Penn State Center Pittsburgh hosts a number of events for the benefit of the community throughout the year. These symposiums and forums offer our neighbors the chance to visit the Center and to participate in group presentations, discussions, and learning experiences led by Penn State faculty and staff. This programming is just one more way the Center demonstrates its commitment to the Pittsburgh region and its residents.
Community Event — WPSU Documentary Screening
Pittsburgh Mayor William Peduto is one of more than 330 mayors across the United States who has pledged to continue to align their cities with the goals of the Paris Agreement, despite the federal government’s announcement to no longer do so. In advance of the mayor’s reveal of the Pittsburgh Climate Action Plan, the Center hosted a screening of the WPSU documentary “Managing Risk in a Changing Climate.”
A panel discussion accompanied the screening of the film. The panel was moderated by Paul Shrivastava, Chief Sustainability Officer and Director of the Penn State Sustainability Institute, and included City of Pittsburgh Chief Resiliency Officer Grant Ervin, Managing Director of the Network for Sustainable Climate Risk Management Rob Nicholas, Penn State Professor of Climate Dynamics Chris Forest, and Michele Halsell, Director of the Penn State Sustainability Institute’s Sustainable Communities Collaborative.
